Monday Ride FAQs

Who are the Monday rides for?

If you cycle regularly and have been thinking about joining a club, or want to learn how to ride in a group, then this is for you. Of course, if you are already a club cyclist and want to hone your group riding skills, build up your fitness, or just fancy a sociable evening ride, then that’s perfect too!

How fit do I need to be?

To come out on our Monday rides you need to be able to cycle up to 25 miles / 40 km at around 12 mph / 19.5 km/h. Remember that when riding in a group you will have a slip-stream advantage, and so will be able to ride a bit faster than when riding solo.

What sort of bike do I need?

A drop-handled road bike is ideal. It’s fine to have skinny or fatter gravel style tyres, and straight handle-bars are OK too, as long as you can ride at the minimum target speed over the ride distance (see above).

What do I need to wear?

Please dress for the forecast, making sure you have enough warm or waterproof layers with you if it looks like they will be needed. There’s no need to be in lycra, or have clipless pedals, as long as you are comfortable and can ride at the minimum target speed over the ride distance (see above)

What do I need to bring?

Apart from a well maintained bike, we ask that you bring along a spare inner tube, tyre levers and a method of inflation as a minimum. We also recommend bringing a rear light and, during early/late season rides, a front light too. We plan to finish our Monday rides before sunset, but there may be delays due to punctures or mechanicals and you may need to ride home after the ride finishes. Finally, we ask that everyone carries an ICE (In Case of Emergency) card, or similar, in their seatbag or back pocket detailing the name and phone number that should be contacted if you are involved in an accident.

Where do the rides start from?

The Monday rides start from one of 3 points:

  1. The usual Fairways roundabout meet point. This is the small roundabout set back from Slackbuie roundabout on the Inverness Southern Distributor road. It is on the section of Slackbuie Avenue furthest from the city centre. Other ways to find this location are:
